Tom Scott, born in 1974, is a native of Pennsylvania. He learned about textiles from his father, who was a carpet weaver, and his grandmother, who was a lace maker. He attended school at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, and then transferred to the Scottish College of Textiles in Edinburgh (part of Heriot-Watt University), where he graduated with a degree in knits.

After graduating, Scott did freelance work for a year before joining Ralph Lauren, where he worked for seven years. He launched his own line of accessories in 2000, followed by a line of knitwear in 2002.

Specializing in knitwear design, Scott emphasizes architectural constructions, distorted forms, and the fusion between garment and accessory. His collections have been featured at retailers such as Ikram in Chicago, Colette in Paris, and Barneys and Project No. 8 in New York. Scott's designs were showcased at the National Design Triennial in 2006 at the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York, in 2007 at Boston's Institute of Contemporary Art, and in 2008 at Houston's Contemporary Art Museum. Other honors include a 2007 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award, and a finalist position at the 2008 Woolmark Awards, resulting in an exhibition of his work at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
