Used the body as a source of inspiration, employing the material metaphorically as something strong and fragile. Objects - glass organs of the human body including lungs, liver, stomach, kidneys, intestines, brain, huge incalmo eyes, and red and white blood cells – function as sculpture or lighting or as a table centerpiece. The pieces incorporated a variety of techniques including blowing, incalmo, and the use of hot-applied bits.

Icelandic, b. 1970
This design plays with forms that are common to all of us and are fluid and soft: something that is so well expressed in glass. An installation of the various body parts were created in a colorful, over-dimensioned way that looks, and is experienced as, fluid and soft and fragile - as our bodies really are.

Sigga Heimis was born in Reykjavik, Iceland in 1970. In 1994, she graduated from the Istituto Europeo di Design, in Milan, Italy in industrial design. In 1995, she started her own studio in Iceland, where she did free-lance design for IKEA in Sweden and other local and foreign companies.

Heimis returned to Milan in 2001, to complete her MFA at the Domus Academy. In the same year, she started working as an in-house designer for IKEA/Sweden. After seven years at IKEA, she worked as design manager at Fritz Hansen in Denmark.

In 2010, Heimis reopened her studio, called Studio Sigga Heimis, in Sweden, where she works with a small team on industrial and product design. Clients include IKEA, Fritz Hansen, Mio, Vitra Design Museum, Kabe, Jensen, Indiska, Polar, and Åkeson. Today she runs her business in both Iceland and Sweden.

Heimis has lectured and held workshops about design at numerous international design schools, including, Eindhoven Design Academy, Royal College of Art in London, Domus in Milan, University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Parsons in New York, University of Shanghai, and Marhi in Moscow.
