Paul Sahre
, Office of Paul SahrePaul Sahre was born in 1964, and grew up in Johnson City, a small town in upstate New York. Sahre attended Kent State University near Akron, OH, where he earned his B.F.A. in 1987, and his M.F.A. in 1990.
Sahre works as a graphic designer, illustrator, lecturer, educator, and author, out of his New York-based studio (established in 1997), which is part design studio, part silkscreen lab, and part classroom. Sahre’s clients include Vintage Beacon Press, Verso, FSG, Random House, Little Brown and Co., Otherwise Editions, Simon & Schuster, Knopf, Soho Repertory Theatre, March First, IBM, Microsoft, MCI, The New York Times, National Post, Verve Records, and Warner Brothers Records.
Sahre has designed book covers for authors such as Rick Moody, Chuck Klosterman, Ben Marcus and Ernest Hemingway. Some of his poster designs are in the permanent collection at the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. Sahre is also a frequent visual contributor to The New York Times, and is the author of Leisurama Now: The Beach House for Everyone, 1964- (Princeton Architectural Press, 2008), which explores early ‘60s consumer optimism, and affordable middle-class summer homes. Sahre also teaches graphic design at the School of Visual Arts in New York, NY.
Sahre’s awards include a 2010 Silver Pencil award by the D&AD (Design and Art Direction); a 2009 TDC 55 award by Type Directors Club Annual; a 2005 One Show Design Gold Pencil award by The One Show; and a 1998 One Show Interactive Silver Pencil award.
