Glassmakers spent the first session making blown glass forms to which multiple rubber hoses were attached. During the second session, audience members were invited to blow simultaneously through the glass-and-hose glassblowing “tools” to create communally-blown forms.

British, b. 1979
I’m constantly looking for newness and ways to communicate it. I work a lot with light, but it is not a speciality per se. It’s just another material chosen because it’s right for a concept. Design is a very sporadic entity for me – a bit like my mind, really. – Paul Cocksedge in a conversation with ELLE Decoration editor, Michelle Ogundehin

Paul Cocksedge was born in London in 1979. In 1997, Cocksedge studied industrial design at Sheffield Hallam University in South Yorkshire, England. He returned to London to study at the Royal College of Art with the designer Ron Arad, and he earned his M.A. in product design in 2002.

In 2003, Cocksedge and his business partner, Joana Pinho, co-founded the London-based Paul Cocksedge Studio. There, they design concepts, installations, public art, and exclusive interior objects. Clients include BMW, Flos, Hermès, Swarovski, The Bombay Sapphire Foundation, Rocco Forte Hotels, and Sony.

Cocksedge was nominated for the Design Museum London’s Designer of the Year prize in 2004, he was the recipient of the London Crafts Council Development Award in 2005, and he was a finalist in the Grand Designs Awards, Best Lighting Design, in 2009.

During Art Basel in June, 2011, GlassLab presented at the Vitra Design Museum. Designer Paul Cocksedge describes working at GlassLab during this event.

Designer Paul Cocksedge created this apparatus so that he could invite the public to participate in blowing glass experiments in which air from the lungs of different people was combined to create shape with breath. See the demonstration at GlassLab at Vitra Design Museum, June 2011.
