Harry Allen was born in New Jersey in 1964. He earned a B.A. in political science from Alfred University in 1986, and an M.I.D. in industrial design from Pratt Institute in 1993.
Allen founded his design consultancy, Harry Allen Design, in 1993. He works in the areas of industrial design, graphic design, interior design and corporate identity. Clients include Moss Gallery, Habitat, the Guggenheim Museum, Eastman Kodak, Warner Brothers, Ikea, Aveda, Estee Lauder, Dom Perignon, Areaware, Steuben, and Umbra.
Allen’s awards include the I.D. Magazine Design Review award in 2009 for Best in Category (Packaging), the Industrial Designers Society of America Yearbook of Design Excellence Bronze Award in 2007, and the International Package Design Award (Cosmetics Category Leader) in 2003 and 2006.

Industrial designer Harry Allen came to The Corning Museum of Glass to work on ideas for his line of objects cast from real life. In this session at the Museum, Allen made prototypes of glass waffles cast in new and antique waffle irons.
