David Weeks was born in 1968. Originally from Athens, Georgia, Weeks studied painting and sculpture at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence (RISD), where he earned a BFA in 1990.

From 1992 to 1995, Weeks worked with the jewelry designer Ted Muehling.   David Weeks Studio was founded in 1996 in New York, where Weeks designs lighting, furniture, and household products.  His designs have been used in projects for Barney’s New York, Kate Spade, Saks Fifth Avenue, MGM Grand Las Vegas, Bliss Spa, Brasserie NYC, and The W Hotels, among others.

In 1999, Weeks collaborated with designer Lindsey Adelman to co-found Butter, a product development company focusing on simple, affordable items for the home.  Weeks was also an adjunct professor at the Parsons School of Design in New York, from 1999 to 2004.

Weeks’ work has been featured in publications including Dwell, Architectural Digest, Interior Design, Harper’s Bazaar, Wallpaper*, W, I.D., and Elle Decor.  His work was featured in the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum’s 2003 Triennial, Inside Design Now, and in 2004, he was one of seven designers representing New York at Berlin's 7+7 Designmai exhibit.

Awards include the 1999 Editors Award for Best Lighting at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF); recognition in Metropolitan Home Design 100 in 2004 and 2006; Good Design Awards in 2008 and 2009 from the Chicago Athenaeum; a nomination for the Designpreis Deutschland 2010, Germany; and several Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt National Design Award nominations.  Butter earned an award from Blueprint Magazine at London's 100% Design show.

Weeks lives in Brooklyn, NY, with his wife, Georgianna Stout, a partner in the design firm 2x4, and their children.
